White-faced heron Egretta novaehollandiae on Pauatahanui Inlet as seen from the
beautiful Camborne Walkway, near Paremata,
Wellington, New Zealand.
It takes approximately 30 minutes to walk one way (about 2 kilometres) along
the walkway, or about 60 minutes return.
The above image is a crop and its dimensions are 2792 pixels height x 1852 pixels
width.
Although this image has been substantially cropped, if printed
at 150 pixels per inch, it would provide a print height of 18.6 inches and a
print width of 12.3 inches.
The original full sized image is shown below and its dimensions are 6048
pixels x 4032 pixels. It was taken with the Sony A900 using the Sony 70-300G
lens. The image was captured at 1/2500 second at F/8, ISO 400, and with a
focal length of 300mm. To obtain a full-sized 6048 pixels x 4032 pixels
image with the above field of view, the photographer would need to use a
650mm telephoto lens.
To
obtain the best appreciation of the quality of the images on this site, they
should be displayed at a relatively small size, because most images have been
reduced in size to a maximum width of only 870 pixels. In addition, the images have been saved at a low quality setting.
During a subsequent visit to the Camborne Walkway, we captured an image of a
white-faced heron in flight:
